\u201cBe careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them.\u00a0If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n 2\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cSo when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full.\u00a03\u00a0<\/sup>But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,\u00a04\u00a0<\/sup>so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n 5\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cAnd when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing\u00a0in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full.\u00a06\u00a0<\/sup>But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father,\u00a0who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.\u00a07\u00a0<\/sup>And when you pray, do not keep on babbling\u00a0like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words.\u00a08\u00a0<\/sup>Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need\u00a0before you ask him.<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n 9\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cThis, then, is how you should pray:<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201c\u2018Our Father\u00a0in heaven, 14\u00a0<\/sup>For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.\u00a015\u00a0<\/sup>But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n 7\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cAsk and it will be given to you;\u00a0seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.\u00a08\u00a0<\/sup>For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds;\u00a0and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n 9\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cWhich of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone?\u00a010\u00a0<\/sup>Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake?\u00a011\u00a0<\/sup>If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts\u00a0to those who ask him!\u00a012\u00a0<\/sup>So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you,\u00a0for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n 19\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cAgain, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them\u00a0by my Father in heaven.\u00a020\u00a0<\/sup>For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.\u201d<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n 22\u00a0<\/sup>If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for\u00a0in prayer.\u201d<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n 22\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cHave faith in God,\u201d<\/mark>\u00a0Jesus answered.\u00a023\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cTruly\u00a0I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, \u2018Go, throw yourself into the sea,\u2019 and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them.\u00a024\u00a0<\/sup>Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.\u00a025\u00a0<\/sup>And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive them, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.\u201d\u00a0<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n 9\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cSo I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you;\u00a0seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.\u00a010\u00a0<\/sup>For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n 11\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cWhich of you fathers, if your son asks for\u00a0a fish, will give him a snake instead?\u00a012\u00a0<\/sup>Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion?\u00a013\u00a0<\/sup>If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!\u201d<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n 9\u00a0<\/sup>To some who were confident of their own righteousness\u00a0and looked down on everyone else,\u00a0Jesus told this parable:\u00a01<\/sup>0\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cTwo men went up to the temple to pray,\u00a0one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector.\u00a011\u00a0<\/sup>The Pharisee stood by himself\u00a0and prayed: \u2018God, I thank you that I am not like other people\u2014robbers, evildoers, adulterers\u2014or even like this tax collector.\u00a012\u00a0<\/sup>I fast\u00a0twice a week and give a tenth\u00a0of all I get.\u2019<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n 13\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cBut the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast\u00a0and said, \u2018God, have mercy on me, a sinner.\u2019<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n 14\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cI tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.\u201d<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n 12\u00a0<\/sup>Very truly I tell you, whoever believes\u00a0in me will do the works I have been doing,\u00a0and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.\u00a013\u00a0<\/sup>And I will do whatever you ask\u00a0in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.\u00a014\u00a0<\/sup>You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n 19\u00a0<\/sup>Jesus saw that they [the Desciples] wanted to ask him about this, so he said to them,\u00a0\u201cAre you asking one another what I meant when I said, \u2018In a little while you will see me no more, and then after a little while you will see me\u2019?\u00a020\u00a0<\/sup>Very truly I tell you, you will weep and mourn\u00a0while the world rejoices. You will grieve, but your grief will turn to joy.\u00a021\u00a0<\/sup>A woman giving birth to a child has pain\u00a0because her time has come; but when her baby is born she forgets the anguish because of her joy that a child is born into the world.\u00a022\u00a0<\/sup>So with you: Now is your time of grief,\u00a0but I will see you again\u00a0and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy.\u00a023\u00a0<\/sup>In that day\u00a0you will no longer ask me anything. Very truly I tell you, my Father will give you whatever you ask in my name.\u00a024\u00a0<\/sup>Until now you have not asked for anything in my name.
