43\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cYou have heard that it was said, \u2018Love your neighbor\u00a0and hate your enemy.\u2019\u00a044\u00a0<\/sup>But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,\u00a045\u00a0<\/sup>that you may be children\u00a0of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.\u00a046\u00a0<\/sup>If you love those who love you, what reward will you get?\u00a0Are not even the tax collectors doing that?\u00a047\u00a0<\/sup>And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that?\u00a048\u00a0<\/sup>Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n 34 <\/sup>Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. 35 <\/sup>One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: 36 <\/sup>\u201cTeacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n 37 <\/sup>Jesus replied: \u201c\u2018Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.\u2019 38 <\/sup>This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 <\/sup>And the second is like it: \u2018Love your neighbor as yourself.\u2019 40 <\/sup>All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.\u201d<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n 28 <\/sup>One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, \u201cOf all the commandments, which is the most important?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n 29 <\/sup>\u201cThe most important one,\u201d <\/mark>answered Jesus, \u201cis this: \u2018Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 30 <\/sup>Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.\u2019 31 <\/sup>The second is this: \u2018Love your neighbor as yourself.\u2019 There is no commandment greater than these.\u201d<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n 27 <\/sup>\u201cBut to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28 <\/sup>bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. 29 <\/sup>If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also. If someone takes your coat, do not withhold your shirt from them. 30 <\/sup>Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. 31 <\/sup>Do to others as you would have them do to you.<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n 32 <\/sup>\u201cIf you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them. 33 <\/sup>And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do that. 34 <\/sup>And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, expecting to be repaid in full. 35 <\/sup>But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. 36 <\/sup>Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n 34 <\/sup>\u201cA new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35 <\/sup>By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.\u201d<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n 9 <\/sup>\u201cAs the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. 10 <\/sup>If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father\u2019s commands and remain in his love. 11 <\/sup>I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. 12 <\/sup>My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. 13 <\/sup>Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one\u2019s life for one\u2019s friends. 14 <\/sup>You are my friends if you do what I command. 15 <\/sup>I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master\u2019s business.
